Placements in Google Display Network and docvertical ids
Last few days I noticed a lot of docvertical::xxxx on Google analytics under the Adwords section. Well I found out that this is all about placements I’ve choose for the adwords campaign. Actually each of the ids (xxxx) belongs to a specific category/topic I’ve set for the specific campaign.
So looking for more information I found myself on Adwords API page where all ids are listed. I also got this information:
– Topics comes with the docvertical word
– Interest categories comes with the uservertical word
– Remarketing list comes with the boomuserlist
To be honest I don’t know why Google displays this docvertical::xxxx instead of that Travel > Tourist Destinations > Beaches & Islands. I’d really like to hear from you if anyone knows the reason. I thought that these topics are quite new on the list so Analytics still cannot map them and display the category name but this is not the reason I suppose. On the page where all topics ids are listed the last update happened 19 Dec 2012 so it’s been some time ago and doesn’t make sense to me.
Here is the page with all Topics IDs
Here is also some good information on how to use the Adwords Editor in order to add topics on your campaigns. You need to write first the prefix which is either topic, category or docvertical then as separator you add : then the ID and at the end the category breadcrumb such as Travel > Tourist Destinations > Beaches & Islands.
I’d just like to say thanks for the post. I’d been wondering what all those docvertical’s meant in my reports!
